“My wife and I approached our adviser for mortgage advice. At this time we were just coming out of a 10 year fixed rate mortgage deal and had a separate mortgage taken out when we decided to extend our home. In addition, as a consequence of some poor lending advice and unforeseen building costs we had used a mortgage reserve account (to all intents and purposes an overdraft) taken out a loan and used credit cards to finish the renovations at our home. As a result we were left with very little spare capital on a monthly basis.
After contacting our adviser, an appointment was made for them to visit us at our home. This appointment took place after work so there was no need for any time to be taken off. They asked us what we were hoping to achieve and it was agreed that we should consolidate our borrowing so we only had one monthly payment. Our adviser had extensive knowledge of both the various mortgage products available and lenders. As they are not attached to any particular lender they did not promote any particular product. They simply advised us what he considered the best product for us in our circumstances and who he thought would be the best lender. Thanks to the advice we were able to secure a very favourable mortgage rate which reduced our monthly outgoings by approximately £700 per month.
